恰恰 means 'exactly, precisely' but with a contrastive edge. The speaker is reacting to an unspoken or stated alternative: people think X, but it is precisely Y. If there's no implicit counter-view in the air, swap in plain 就是 — without something to push against, 恰恰 loses its punch.

Common Mistake
Learners use 恰恰是 as a generic emphasizer for any 'it is X' sentence, but it only works when you're contradicting an expectation or another view. Out of context it sounds odd.

Neutral emphasis ('it is X'). Use 就是 when you're not pushing back on anything; switch to 恰恰是 only when there's a counter-view.

Means 'this is exactly the one' — confirms identity. 恰恰是 leans harder into 'against expectation.'

Highlights an opposite result without picking out a specific thing. 恰恰是 names what the correct answer is.
