How to Think About It
This is a discourse marker, not a sentence pattern with slots. Treat it as a single chunk that opens a paragraph and signals 'sidebar — pay attention.' It carries written, slightly journalistic register; in casual speech you would use 顺便说一下 or 对了 instead. Because it foregrounds the next clause, the fact that follows should genuinely add something — using it for a trivial point feels overblown.

Common Mistake
Learners drop the 是 because it looks redundant after 的, giving them '值得一提的，...' That is ungrammatical. The chunk 值得一提的是 functions as a topic frame — '[what is] worth mentioning is...' — and the 是 is what makes that frame work.

Don't Confuse With
顺便说一下
Spoken equivalent — 'by the way.' Use 顺便说一下 in conversation, 值得一提的是 in writing or formal speech.
另外
Just adds another point without weighting it. Use 另外 for additional info; use 值得一提的是 when you want the reader to register the next fact as significant.

Stronger and more formal — 'especially worth attention.' Use when the sidebar fact is critically important; 值得一提的是 is moderate spotlight.
