Verb + 完 / 到
Use these when you need to say HOW an action ended — not just that it happened. 完 marks that the action ran all the way to completion: 吃完 = finished eating. 到 marks that the action reached or achieved a target: 找到 = found, 看到 = saw (and actually perceived it). Without these complements, the verb only describes the activity; with them, the sentence reports a result.

How to Think About It
完 and 到 answer two different questions about the same action. 完 answers 'did you do the whole thing?' — it sweeps the activity from start to finish. 到 answers 'did the action land?' — did it actually connect with its target. 我看了 = I looked; 我看完了 = I finished watching the whole thing; 我看到了 = I caught sight of it. Pick 完 for completion of the activity, 到 for arrival at the result.

我已经看完那本书了。
wǒ yǐjīng kàn wán nà běn shū le.
I've finished reading that book.
你听到他说的话了吗？
nǐ tīng dào tā shuō de huà le ma?
Did you catch what he said?
我找到钥匙了，在沙发下面。
wǒ zhǎo dào yàoshi le, zài shāfā xiàmiàn.

Common Mistake
Learners hear that 完 and 到 both mean 'done' and use them interchangeably. The mistake shows up most with perception verbs (看, 听, 找): saying 看完 a sudden flash of light is wrong because you cannot complete the activity of seeing it — you simply caught it. Use 到 for the moment of perception, 完 only when there is a whole stretch of activity to finish.
我刚才看完了一辆很奇怪的车。

Don't Confuse With
Verb + 好
好 marks completion that is also satisfactorily done. 准备好 = ready (not just finished preparing). Use 好 when the result needs to be in a usable state; 完 just signals the activity ran out.
Verb + 了
了 marks a change of state or completed event but does not specify the manner of completion. 吃了 = ate; 吃完了 = finished it all; 吃到了 = managed to get a taste of.
Verb + 着
着 marks an ongoing state — the opposite of a result complement. 看着 = watching (in progress); 看到 = caught sight of (done).
