反对 (fǎnduì) is a Chinese verb meaning 'to oppose,' 'to be against,' or 'to object to' — to take a stance against a proposal, opinion, action, or person's view (反对意见 dissenting opinion, 我反对 I object).

It is register-neutral and used in debate, voting, family discussion, and politics alike. Two points for English speakers: 反对 is directly transitive — you say 反对这个计划 ('oppose this plan') without any preposition, unlike English 'object to.'

Second, its natural opposite is 支持 (support) or 赞成 (approve of), and in formal voting Chinese contrasts 赞成 (in favor) with 反对 (against). 反对 states an active stance; it is stronger than merely 不同意 (disagree), which just registers a different view without necessarily resisting it.
