How to Think About It
无论 frames everything that follows as 'irrelevant detail' — the speaker is telling the listener up front that the choice between A and B will not change the result. The 还是 here is not the question word for 'or'; it's a structural marker listing the alternatives that are about to be dismissed. The 都 in the result clause is almost mandatory — it's what locks in 'in all cases.'

Common Mistake
Learners forget 都 in the result clause, leaving the sentence feeling incomplete. 无论...还是... sets up multiple cases; 都 sweeps them all into one outcome. Without 都, listeners wait for it.

Don't Confuse With
不管...都...
Same meaning, conversational register. Use 不管 in speech and casual writing; 无论 in essays and official text. The grammar is identical.
无论...都...
Single-condition version — 'no matter what X, all Y' (often with a question word: 无论谁都...). The 还是 version specifically lists TWO options; the bare version lets a question word do the sweeping.
或者A或者B
Plain 'either A or B' in statements — doesn't say one outcome covers both. 无论A还是B,都Y insists ONE outcome applies regardless; 或者 just lists alternatives.
不管...都...
Same meaning, more colloquial. Use 不管 in speech, 无论 in writing or formal speech.
无论……都……
Same family, but uses an open question word (谁/什么/怎么) instead of listing A vs B. Use 还是 when listing two specific options; use a question word when the variable is open-ended.
